Choosing color: While lighter color fabrics reflect light and illuminate the interior, darker color fabrics provide a clearer view to the outside, reduce glare and absorb light making them ideal for viewing computer and television screens.

Choosing an openness factor: The openness of a fabric refers to the weave or mesh structure and determines the amount of heat and light that enters a room. A more open fabric allows more heat and light to penetrate through while a tighter weave or mesh will block more heat and light.

Transparent

  • Clear View through fabric
  • Natural light & glare control
  • Offers solar protection
  • Reduced solar heat gain

Translucent

  • Diffused view
  • Natural light filtration
  • Offers solar protection
  • Reduced solar heat gain

Blackout

  • Approximately 99% UV blockage
  • Ultimate privacy
  • Offers solar protection

In general, the higher the openness factor and the darker the fabric, the clearer the view will be. Solar screen shades increase energy efficiency in the home and reduce the cost of cooling. Solar screen fabrics optimize natural light and protect furnishings.

NOTE: Transparent and translucent solar shades do not offer nighttime privacy (lighted interiors allow inward visibility). If complete privacy is desired, a dual shade or secondary treatment is necessary.
